Radio Officer

  • The candidate should have valid Radio Telephony (RTIM) certificate of proficiency or a higher certificate (RTR / RTG / GMDSS) issued by ministry of communication. Should have Radar simulator & ARPA certificate from an Institute recognized by D.G. Shipping. The candidate with limited experience may be considered for the position of Trainee Radio Officer.

  • In-depth knowledge of Wireless/Radio frequency Communication equipments, including certification, knowledge about use of Radar, AIS.

  • Preference will be given to Merchant Naval Vessels as Radio Officer.

  • Requires good interpersonal and communication skill in English.

  • Must be PC savvy with above average skills in standard Windows applications and mail clients such as Outlook.

Job Profile :
The position shall be responsible on 24 x 7 basis for the following :

  • Maintain radio/wireless communication in English with all vessels, Barges, Tugs, Pilots, Tugs, the Coast Guard and Navy vessels in and around the port, thus facilitating their movement and use of port facilities.

  • Maintains radar coverage of the marine activities ad vessel movements in and around the port.

  • Maintain full and proper record of vessel berthing details. Prepares and maintains daily/weekly/monthly schedules.

  • Collects and maintains weather information from available instruments.

  • Carries out routine inspections along all berths and jetties to ensure safe conduct of vessels alongside.

  • Makes necessary entries in the radio logbook in accordance with the required operational procedures.

  • Through radio contact, informs pilot, tug captains, and quayside operators of berthing/un-berthing of ships or any vessel movement within the Port.

  • Responds to emergencies and SOS signals, following internationally recognized procedures and maintains constant communication among the Coast Guard, Port officials and the concerned vessel.

  • Monitoring of Marine activities & vessel movement through AIS.

  • Efficient Berth Planning and record Port turn around times.

  • Discharge duties as necessary under the ISPS convention.
